Kayaking the Inside Passage

Welcome to PaddlePlus the site dedicated to adventure travel through the use of renewable resources.

On June 15, 2008 I will begin a 1000-mile solo paddle of the Inside Passage. Aided by a deck-mounted kayak sail and two 32-watt solar panels, I will use the wind and sun to assist in powering my boat and essential electronics.

The expedition’s purpose is to raise awareness about the concerns we all face in a changing climate and to advocate the importance of recycling and reducing carbon emissions into the environment.

I grew up sailing back east and now live in Salt Lake City. I have always enjoyed the water and have kayaked in Alaska, Maine, Utah, Wyoming and Costa Rica. An underlying motivation for the trip is to challenge myself both physically and mentally in order to gain a keener sense of self.

Throughout the journey I will be communicating via satellite phone, remotely broadcasting updates to KSL Radio. Listen to the broadcasts online at ksl.com’s Utah Outdoors radio program which airs Saturday mornings 6-8 a.m.
