Kayaking the Inside Passage

Welcome to PaddlePlus the site dedicated to adventure travel through the use of renewable resources and low-impact techniques.

On June 15, 2008 I began what was to be a 1000 mile solo paddle of the Inside Passage. Aided by a deck-mounted kayak sail and two 32-watt solar panels, I  used the wind and sun to assist in powering my boat and essential electronics.

As it turned out I was able to complete only about 1/3 of my journey due to time constraints among other things.

So this summer I returned to Southeast to explore the Juneau area and venture on a paddle trip to Admiralty Island which boasts the highest concentration of coastal brown bears in the world. The Tlingit refer to this amazing rainforest as the Kootznoowoo—

The new Thermoform Infinity 175 by Seaward Kayaks. This is the boat I will be paddling on the Inside Passage.
